Time Rip
By EZkeel
This map is designed and created by DeCyber's EZkeel.
It is based on a planets moon which has seen bombardment from
the Skaarj on the recently settled colonists. The Liandri corp
caught wind of the imense neutreino radiation which was causing
rifts in time due to the atomic blasts from the bombs, the colony
was evacuated for fear of time displacement.
Liandri saw this as a good business oportunity to
turn this in there favour. Scientists were sent in to evaluate
wether or not the effect could be turned into a business oportunity
for a new deathmatch idea. The plan was a sucess and what emerged
was a deathmatch arena split over two different time zones one
at the start of the war and another the end, both timezones are
now connected by man made rifts. For added amusement Xan order
that there be realistic air strikes controlled by the players.
phew that was a long introduction but I have noticed
that EZkeel likes to set the scene. Anyway on with the review.
LOOKS:
Alot of thought has been put into the look of this
deathmatch arena lighting is dark and reminicent of the original
Unreal which fits the storyline down to a tee. EZkeel has managed
to squeze some hilarity into the map with the aid of the Nolan
sisters (only joking). Three dancing monsters grace the underground
with a dance routine that must has been taken from a steps video
this made me chuckle the first time I saw them as the music that
they all dance to is also as funny. After calming down to carry
on killing everything I happened upon another dancing wonder in
the form of big daddie for all you people wanting to gaze at these
I have included screens of them to the left.
Organized in a large courtyard type of layout you
will find at each corner a large tower, now gracing the top of
these towers is the redeamer this really comes into its own on
this map due to its size, you can happily fly around until you
find a camper or other foe to pick on and blast there limbs off.
The timezones are clearly defined with different
looks, one clean and new (before the war) and the other wrecked
and overgrown (after the war).
PLAYABILTIY:
This level NEEDS alot of people to play on it because its huge!
If you play this level with anything less than 12 people the action
is limited to say the least. Get 14 people on this map and it
rocks. The idea of split timezone is cool two worlds each with
action going on in both, you try running away from a nutter on
the tower with the redeamer in the next zone only to find another
two of them in the other not a good situation to be in, haha!
The one effect that I have to say I was so impressed
with was the airstrikes these like the intro say are controlled
by the players via a shoot panel, the text flys on screen saying
"Air Strike" and out of the sky come 4 skaarj fighters
loded with redeamer shells which bombard the ground with same
blast radius of the redeamer, So Run like you've never before.
FAULTS:
I'm afraid to say lurking in between the above characteristics
is a few minor flaws and I mean minor. There are no graphical
defects, no Hall Of Mirror effects. But the Level is so big at
some times that you have to have so many people playing which
sadly knocks people with slower machines out of the running for
this level which is a shame. The other talking of the slower machine
is there is slow down on the towers mainly because you are overlooking
the whole map which like I say is huge. I will say though that
EZkeel obviosly knew this as he comments on it in the readme file.
Lastly weapons are quite scarce on this map and as such you tend
to see 30% of the players running around with impact hammers waiting
for the weapons to respawn, but is that a fault or just to show
how good a player people are? I tend to be swayed on this issue.
